Unmanned Spokane Engine Crashes Into Home
SPOKANE, Wash. - A parked Spokane Fire Department engine with nobody at the wheel rolled into a home where firefighters were making an aid call.
Fire Chief Bobby Williams says the truck had been parked about 100 yards from the home Wednesday night. Shortly after medics walked inside, they heard the crash.
KXLY-TV reports the engine knocked down porch supports and punched a hole in the living room wall.
No one was hurt. Investigators are trying to figure out how the runaway truck made the trip down the street, over a curb and hit the home.

I guess the wheel chock SOP is more than a suggestion, it is a good idea. Engine 2 found out the hard way last night! Dooh!

believe it or not, firefighters can actually be trained, but it's a little more difficult for some... someone needs to learn their job... pulling the little yellow knob is a nice thing to ENGAGE the air brakes, actually using a chock block is another way to prevent this type of needless accident. someone owes ice cream to someone...

Ice cream will be had by someone. Good crew, just had a fade, either brake or brain. Don't know yet if there was a mechanical failure yet, or brake adjustment problem with this reserve engine. We know there were no wheel chocks.

Lets see what comes out of the Investigation.....I was an Engineer for over 20 years and my guess is air brakes were NOT set and rig was left in neutral. Just a guess......I'm glad nobody was hurt.
