A question I hope someone can answer or at least point me in the right direction. For Class A dress uniforms how would a FM be dressed. Should he be in gold like the other officers, & how many horns. We are a 100 %volunteer FD with no paid personnel, but with a paid FM or Fire Official which is really separate from the FD. I know in the bigger paid depts. the FM is a promotional position roughly equal to a chiefs position.
Seems you haven't gotten a lot of help on your question, so I'll take a stab at it.
In my department, the Fire Marshal is an assignment, not a rank.
The current FM is a Battalion Chief.
The FM badge center is a variation on the standard BC badge - gold badge, red enamel badge center, two crossed speaking trumpets. The variation is that the FM 's badge center has a red enamel rim with the words "Fire Prevention" in gold lettering. The FM's trumpets are slightly smaller than the rest of the BC's, due to the fire prevention custom lettering.
The rest of the FM's uniform and collar brass are identical to the other BC's items.
Two gold sleeve stripes on the Class A coat, red collar brass with two gold crossed speaking trumpets for the coat, two gold crossed speaking trumpets for the shirt collar brass.
We also have three Fire Inspectors who wear a uniform similar to firefighters with silver badges, silver/red enamel badge centers and collar brass, and one gray stripe on the Class A coat sleeve. The gray is to differentiate the inspectors from lieutenants (one silver stripe) and firefighter/senior firefighter/apparatus operator ranks who do not wear coat sleeve stripes.
