Fire fighters are currently tackling a blaze in the derelict Hellingly Hospital building.

Crews have been on the scene, in Park Road, Hellingly, near Hailsham since about 5.30am.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "There is a large fire in the extensive old hospital building.

"It is well alight."

Crews from Eastbourne fire station are still trying to douse the flames, which can be seen coming out of the roof of the former former mental hospital, which closed down in 1994.
