POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Authorities in suburban Philadelphia have identified a man who died after an apartment fire from which a woman and a toddler were rescued.

The blaze in the Pottstown unit was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Monday.

Officials say arriving firefighters used a ladder to rescue the woman and her two-year-old daughter from a second-floor window.

Firefighters then learned that a man was still inside the burning building and found him in the living room. Fire Chief Richard Lengel says he was taken to Pottstown Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The coroner identified him as 20-year-old Raymond Boone.

Investigators said the fire started in the kitchen and they have ruled it accidental. Lengel says two of the home's smoke detectors had no batteries and the third had the battery disconnected.
