SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) - Two people were able to escape their burning home in Silver Spring Thursday morning.
Captain Oscar Garcia, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, says firefighters were dispatched for a report of a house fire in the unit block of Burket Court around 5:41 a.m. When crews arrived on the scene, they saw two people exiting a two-story home enveloped in smoke and flames. Garcia says that's when additional firefighters were requested to respond to the scene.
Approximately 60 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. Garcia says their efforts were hampered by bars over the lower level windows and an electrical source on fire near an area where firefighters attempted to attack the flames.
A fire official on the scene says the flames originated on the first floor of the home, and most of the damage is located on one side of the structure.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Fire investigators have been requested to the scene.
