BOLTON, Conn. - Fire officials say two people were hospitalized suffering from smoke inhalation after an early morning fire in Bolton.

Firefighters responded to the Rocco Road home just after 1 a.m. on Monday.

When they arrived, both residents were already outside the home, but were taken to St. Francis Hospital. Their condition was not immediately known.

Firefighters limited the blaze to the first floor.

Chief James Preuss tells The Hartford Courant that there is heavy smoke damage throughout the home, but credited smoke detectors with saving the lives of the residents.

Crews from several surrounding communities responded to the fire, which remains under investigation.
