BOSTON - Authorities say two residents were critically injured in an early morning blaze at a multiunit Beacon Hill brownstone.

Firefighters say the fire appears to have started at about 5 a.m. Wednesday on the second floor. A woman was found inside unresponsive and suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. She was revived outside and brought to the hospital.

A man was found in an alley next to the building and it is believed he jumped from a window. He too was taken to the hospital.

Officials say about a dozen other residents were displaced and more injuries were avoided because a neighbor who saw smoke ran through the building pounding on doors to alert residents.
