HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. - Two people and their dog died in an early morning house fire near Brownsburg Monday.

A neighbor called 911 at 5:26 am when she noticed the home in the 7500 block of East 300 North was on fire.

Firefighters say the porch was fully engulfed when the arrived. They found the victims on the second floor.

“It’s hard for us to tell how the fire started since it was called in by a third party. There were also several cats firefighters saved from the home,” said Stephanie Martindale with the Brownsburg Fire Department.

Firefighters say they did not have any water problems. Avon, Brownsburg, and Wayne County firefighters were all working the scene.

“I just can’t believe our neighbors could be gone. They were the sweetest, nicest people,” one neighbor told 24-Hour News 8.

Firefighters also rescued several animals from a barn in the backyard.

There is no word yet what caused the fire. The incident is still under investigation.
