LANDOVER, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say two people are dead after a house fire in the Landover area.
The fire was reported around 3 a.m. Friday at a home in the 7200 block of Flagstaff Street.
Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says when firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the house. He says a neighbor told firefighters that a man and woman lived at the home and their car was still in the driveway.
Firefighters found two people inside. Brady says a 78-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene and a 65-year-old woman taken to an area hospital in critical condition has died.
Brady says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, though it does not appear suspicious. He says fire damage is estimated at $50,000.
