Two Children Critically Injured after Indianapolis House Fire

INDIANAPOLIS — Officials say two children were critically injured in a fire in a duplex on the east side of Indianapolis.

Fire Department spokeswoman Capt. Rita Burris says the children's mother woke when she felt her feet burning about 3 a.m. Monday. The woman fled to the other half of the house and called 911. When firefighters arrived, she told them her children were still inside.

Firefighters found the infant in her crib and the 4-year-old under her bed.

Officials said the girls were in critical condition Monday at Riley Hospital for Children. Their 28-year-old mother was in serious condition at Wishard Memorial Hospital with burns on her feet.

Two men were found shot to death last week in the other half of the duplex.
