Tulsa Woman Dies in House Fire; Hoarding Complicated Rescue Efforts

TULSA, Okla. - Fire swept through a two-story home in central Tulsa, killing an elderly woman who fire officials say was overcome by heavy smoke.

Fire department spokesman Bill French says firefighters pulled 71-year-old Eleanor Jordan from the home early Thursday morning, but she later died at a Tulsa hospital from smoke inhalation.

French says firefighters found flames shooting from the home's roof when they responded to the call just before 5 a.m. He says the house was packed full of stacked boxes and clutter that hindered fire fighting efforts.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Such a shame. We've encountered more than a few hoarders/packrats over the years, luckily it hasn't come to this for us, though. We politely tell them to clean up the mess or face fines.
