TRUCK a love story is the title of a book I'm reading now by Michael Perry. A friend of mine gave it to me telling me that the author is a vollie firefighter. Any way maybe the guy is well known but I had never heard of him. Truck is the best book I have read in some time. It's mostly about the author trying to fix his old pickup and resurrect his love life but he talks about his fire dept. here and there throughout the book and I like his honesty and humor. Just thought I'd recommend it to you.

He has another book which is based on his FIRE/EMS career, called " Meeting your nieghbors one siren at a time". I highly recommend it. He was also featured in the documentry " Into the fire" that previewed on the history channel about 3 years ago. Would also recommend that video.
Is this about a free lance writer from New York, who moves to New England, where he buys a 1950 Dodge pickup sitting in a field and restores it in his barn?
If so, that's a book I've been looking for, since reading it once in the late seventies. One of my very favorite books, well-written, humorous, full of interesting anticdotes and just place fun to read.

Joemac,
No, that's not the same book. Truck was published in 2007 but it sounds similar since he is restoring a 1951 International. If you find the one you are looking for let us know.

Ralph,
No, it's definitely not a reprint you can tell by the current events in the book. I wrote the author over the weekend and he actually wrote me back. He said he's not going to fires anymore but is still active in his vollie. rescue squad.
