Does anyone else train in their full turnouts while in the gym like jogging on the treadmill or doing the stair climber? Just curious on what you all do, so if you've got some ideas throw'em out. I've even started jogging in full turnouts with an scba on, wow what a workout for 30 minutes.
Just a thought your boots are not ment for running and can cause shin splints which are very painful. Also don't forget that you will be soaked with sweat and then if you get a fire you are wearing wet gear which is not only uncomfortable but can lead to burns. And then you will be missing work. Just a thought
Im running stairs training for a CPAT test. Im going to start wearing a SCBA and a 50' section of hose. Never worked out in full turnout but there is some good training vids on the fav. video section on my page. The guys work out with a mask on.
Good idea T!!!
I just sometimes work in stairs with SCBA and highrise pack. Then work in sledge hammer work for a break time. Mayb some hose pulls and ladder raises to mix it up. Just to get a workout that is geared to the job and a little training at the same time. All of this at the firehouse. Not for time or anything just to get whatever job I set forth done on a tank of air which for me is 15-20 working and this is done after 30 min on eliptical. Low impact on the knees and no running, no injury.
i am a training officer and i just don't think that making the firefighters jog in full turnout is the answer. a good workout is fine. even good for the people. but i think full ppe should be used on training evolutions.
