Eric,

For aerial operator training my personnel favorite is to fill a 5 gallon ucket half way up with water attach it to the end of the fly section and have your aerial operator pick it up and place it on different places like station roof, siren pole, apparatus roof...etc. Trick is for them to spill as little water as possible. Really teaches how to feather the aerial controls for smooth rides for the rest of us truckies that prefer to work on the little side of the ladder

for interior attack try using a local church . We have a church that has been added onto 3 times and it is a challenge due to the fact that there are so many rooms that are next to each other . It is very easy to get your directions mixed up. we will set up a scenario for search and rescue , full gear including scba's . The school has also been added to several times. That is also a great place to train. good luck and stay safe.

Eric,

Once they have perfected the water bucket with the aerial then switch to a traffic cone and tennis ball. Place the cone on a roof, awning, parapet etc and tie the tennis ball onto the end of a rope, length is your preference. Tie the rope with the tennis ball to the tip of the stick and have them try to place the ball onto the cone. OR instead of a tennis ball use a second cone and have them stack the two cones without knocking over the first one.

Contact realtor's or property owners in your area that have vacant commercial structures. Get permission to use the vacant building for interior fire attack scenerio's. Some property owners I've worked with in the past have even let us incorporate a smoke machine into the scenerio.
