Toronto Firefighters Fight 6-Alarm Blaze In Historic Downtown Building

TORONTO - Firefighters on aerial towers are dousing the remnants of a six alarm blaze in downtown Toronto (near Yonge and Gould).

Flames erupted overnight in a heritage building that had been left empty since its brick facade collapsed onto a sidewalk last summer.

Fire officials say 32 trucks and 125 firefighters were called out to battle the flames.

They say four firefighters suffered minor injuries, including two who fell into the fire from their perch on a nearby roof.

The Yonge and Dundas intersection _one of Toronto's busiest _ is expected to remain closed to traffic until around noon.

There's no word on what caused the fire; the company that owns the building was reportedly seeking permission to have it demolished.
