PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say an early morning house fire claimed the life of a 2-year-old girl.

Pittsburgh officials say the two-alarm blaze broke out shortly before 5 a.m. in a three-story house in the Larimer neighborhood of the city.

Detective Michael Burns says five adults and another child escaped, although one woman was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.

But the body of Sanita Thompson was found on a bed in a second-floor bedroom.

Two firefighters were treated for burns on their hands that happened as they tried in vain to enter the house to rescue the child.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
