The Herald of Rock Hill, South Carolina reports that a lieutenant with the Chester City Fire Department was killed in an off-duty Christmas Eve crash.

Lieutenant Robert Stewart Boyd died on Friday evening after his vehicle left the road, overturned and collided with a tree.

Both Boyd Jr. and passenger Joe Williams Gore were ejected. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Boyd was transported to Chester Regional Hospital were he died of head trauma. Gore was flown to Carolinas Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

Boyd was a well-respected community member and near 20-year veteran of the fire department. He is survived by a wife and two daughters.
