South Carolina Captain Charged with DUI in Department Vehicle

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A fire department captain has been charged with driving under the influence after being involved in a wreck on a South Carolina interstate while driving a department vehicle.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 44-year-old Mount Pleasant fire Capt. Robert Wronski was charged early Sunday after his fire department sports utility vehicle hit a disabled vehicle on I-526 in North Charleston.

The Highway Patrol says the other vehicle was on the edge of the road and the emergency lane.

The driver was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital.

Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Herbert Williams says Wronski is on administrative leave without pay during the investigation. Wronski has been with the department about four years. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

OMG! Come on Captn you should know better! Thanks for making the fire dept look bad!!!!
I'm sure it's a mere technicality, but the captain has been charged with DUI, not convicted.
Technicality, smechnacality, charged = conviction (only when it's someone else, though).
Thanks for making ALL of us look bad. :-/
It would appear the "charged = conviction" equation is being calculated without a lot of thought. I guess it's that easy - when it's someone else.

Norm: Do you really think YOU "look bad" because of this? Are you sure about that statement?
Yeah unfortunately it's the old big paint brush the public uses to paint one f/f black but paints all in the process. Also it is hard to get anybodies attention if one is subsequently found innocent because the damage has already been done .
Roy,
You're right, a finding of innocent often gets much less attention than a charge of guilty. But I think it's a gross exaggeration to claim we're all tainted, in the eyes of the public, by the actions of one. I, for one, don't feel like I've been made to "look bad" at all.
I don't think I look bad either, do these bunkers make my ass look fat?

Also, fortunately we have FFN as a clearing house for all things firefighter, including those that screw up (or are accused of doing so). Nice to know anyone can do their one-stop-shopping for bad firefighters right here.
