Six Firefighters Injured in San Francisco Three-Alarmer
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A veteran San Francisco firefighter is in serious condition after a three-alarm blaze at a vacant home.
San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said the firefighter paramedic inhaled superheated gases when the roof of the home collapsed early Thursday morning, trapping him and other firefighters inside.
The firefighter paramedic was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where Hayes-White described his condition as "very serious."
His name has not been released.
Authorities say two other firefighters suffered second-degree burns. Two additional firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and one was treated for a twisted knee.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The firefighter paramedic is an 11-year veteran of the department.
