Seven FDNY Firefighters Injured Fighting Queens Building Fire

NEW YORK - A stubborn blaze at a one-story commercial building in New York City took more than 10 hours to bring under control and injured seven firefighters, one seriously.

Rich Viglione of the New York Fire Department says the fire began at about 6 p.m. Monday inside a large metal-works warehouse in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens.

Crews brought it under control at 4:40 a.m.

About 200 firefighters were at the scene throughout the night.

Viglione says three firefighters sustained burns, one to the face and head. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. Four other firefighters suffered less serious injuries.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
