Separating from Active Duty Firefighting/ Want advice on landing a DoD firefighter position

I am separating from the Air Force as a firefighter next year and will start applying for jobs in January. Anyone that can give me advice, tips, or anything else that would be helpful I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Why limit your options to just DoD positions? Majority of depts out there will give vet points when testing, bettering chances of getting on. If firefighting is what you want to do, perhaps look into school for a degree or paramedic cert and use your GI Bill.

If you want a job, test, don't limit yourself to one sector also look at enhancing your qualifications with education. Also ensure your AF certs would transfer if looking outside DoD, I know the AF likes to state you get everything, but not everything will readily transfer state to state.
