I hurt my back opening a very difficult hydrant last week and have had a lot of sciatic nerve pain.  I had this same sciatica about 7 years ago from a martial arts injury but it had never bothered me since.  It lasted for months the last time, the corporate doctor has me off FF duties for the next week.  I know sciatic pain can be chronic so was wondering if any of you have dealt with it and what has worked to relieve it?

ROTFLMAO

I just think it is hysterical that it is a PSYCHOTIC nerve.... LOLOLOLOL

But Rich is right - got to relieve the pressure of the "pinched nerve"
Document document document make sure you have a injury report and make a workers comp claim..I had to retire at the age of 39 due to severe back injury lifting a patient, my fourth surgery is less than 36 hours away. If you need to go out on disability the documentation saves alot of hassle. I had a great atty. help me through the long process so as I said document it! Hope it all works out well for you, and dont let them put you on any big meds cause they suck trying to get off of.

be safe!
In retrospect, I seen DO's and MD's OD a woman and put her into cardiac arrest.... Medicine is the same as being at the tables in Vegas. Just sayin.
VEGAS = MEDICINE = Best Analogy EVER

I love my Osteopath Doc... I love my Chiropractor Doc... I love my massage therapist...

BUT I had to go through A LOT of bad Docs to get good ones... So yup, I am finally on my winning streak... Over the years I have found a couple good Docs - but sorry Dust none of my known sources of skill live near you.

BUT I have an awesome ortho surgeon near Spokane WA that is worth the flight for eval and surgery from him !!! Dr. Graeme French - MIRACLE WORKER !!! After 40 f'd up Docs could not fix my dislocated shoulder and torn rotator cuff - 1 hour of surgery and I was like new again !!!

Keep moving on until you find a Doc that serves your needs. It may not be the type of Doc, it is more commonly that particular Doc sucks !!!
Chiropractor, inversion table, and tempurpedic bed. Works wonders!!
I'm not a Dr but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.......
This can be extremely painful, almost debilitating. I had this happen just before going on vacation. I found a hot tub with some powerful jets and then some stretching. The stretching part is important. The hot tub loosened everything up in the mornings and then the stretching followed. I said from then on that I would make stretching a part of my daily routine. That was 8 months ago and I am still trying to incorporate stretching into my daily routine. Good luck!
is that what you are calling my house now
Having suffered from bouts with sciatica for many years, I find I get the best(and quickest) relief from the 90/90 position. Lay on the floor beside a low table(coffee table) and put your calves on the table and your butt as close to the table as possible. The goal is to keep your hip joints at 90 degrees and your knee joints at 90 degrees. Takes all the pressure off of your sciatic nerve and relieves the pain almost instantly. Takes some getting used to, but after a bit you can learn to sleep in this position as well!
Dust - maybe this will help to remove that giant pain in your ass ;-)~
