Last November 1st our school district had an unfortunate event that left a fourth grade student dead after being run over by his own school bus. He had returned to the road way in front of the rear wheels as the bus began to pull away from his stop.

One of the high school sophomores is currently working on a project to install some additional safety equipment onto the buses as well as expand upon the school bus safety education. As our departments training captain and organizer of fire prevention at the school I have volunteered to help with manpower for bus education. I would also like to expand it to roadway and traffic education. We have a lot of students that seem to forget about crosswalks and safety around our streets and roads.

I am thinking that it may have more impact coming from a firefighter than the teacher they listen to every day.
Is there anyone that has done similar projects that could shed some light on key points and activities that were covered?
