SAN JOSE, Calif. - It took San Jose firefighters 3 1/2 hours to extinguish a $2 million blaze that consumed two buildings northeast of downtown.

Fire Capt. Debbie Ward tells the San Jose Mercury News that the blaze was reported at 2:38 a.m. Monday and a knockdown was declared at 6 a.m. Motorists on Highway 101 saw 40-foot flames licking into the sky and called 911.

There were no injuries.

The El Savoy club and San Jose Metals were heavily damaged.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
