San Francisco Firefighters Battle 4-Alarm Apartment Fire

SAN FRANCISCO - At least three people have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire forced the evacuations of two San Francisco apartment buildings.

The four-alarm blaze began around 5 a.m. Wednesday in an apartment complex downtown. Flames could be seen shooting out of a fourth floor window.

KGO-TV reports that firefighters could not use the fire escape and were eventually ordered out of the building for their safety.

Some 50 people were evacuated. The three people who were treated did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation although fire officials believe it started on the first floor.
