SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco firefighter has died from injuries suffered while battling a house fire.
Chief Joanne Hayes-White said at a news conference outside San Francisco General Hospital that the firefighter died Thursday after
going into cardiac arrest.
Hayes-White told reporters the firefighter is the first to die in the line of duty in San Francisco in
10 years. The chief said a second firefighter is in "very critical
condition" and fighting for his life.
Firefighter/Paramedic Valerio was critically injured in Thursday's Diamond Heights house fire. Engine Company 26 had earlier lost Lieutenant Vincent Perez after he was rescued from the fire and rushed to the hospital.
