Sam Houston

How did the Cairns Sam Houston fire helmet get its name ? I tried looking on google but that didn't help . I couldn't find anything even linking him to the fire service .

OMg  you have no idea who  Sam Houston is??  he  was an 1840's   Texas  Statesman...

I remember that Sam Houston , But I was wondering what he had to do with the fire service to get a helmet named after him or if there was a different Sam Houston that was contented with the fire service
