Was nominated this year for is and want to know what qualifications are needed i have been a member of the fire dept since 2003 on my countys haz-mat team and ema deputy for my town. so i'm not a new guy that is being put up for this very important office i just never saw this coming i'm one of 5 interior fire men at my station well trainind and certified maskman.
Why not take the OFPC approved course entitled....Yup, you guessed it...."Safety Officer" It covers not only Fire but also Rescue operations as well.....I took it 2 years ago...makes one think a bit but worth every minute of it....
You might want to look at NFPA 1521. Being a Safety Officer isn't just something that you get elected to be, it comes with a fair amount of responsibility and should shit hit the fan, you're going to be one of the first people NIOSH (and perhaps OSHA) come to talk to. Followed shortly by the lawyers for the injured or dead firefighters.
i know that it has alot of responsibility thats why i asking on here for info becasue me and one other guy is the only one with the full structure knowledge to even attempt to do this seriously and not just have a title
I think there is a course offered through the state fire academy. It used to be offered as a local level course, but I don't know about that anymore.Send an e mail to the academy to find out who the certified instructors are in your area.I know we have some up in my neck of the woods.
