Rochester FD worked a 4 alarm fire in a high rise apartment building this morning. The first alarm was on scene a few minutes before receiving the report of a police officer trapped in the elevator on the 5th floor. He was removed unconscious but is expected to fully recover.
Here is a link to video and a recording of the radio traffic starting with the initial dispatch: http://www.mcfw.com/?p=1079
The small skinny bar below the You Tube box is the fireground audio recording.
To summarize: Engine 17 was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm; the assignment was filled out when dispatch received the report of a fire; E-17 ordered a 2nd alarm on arrival (in about as calm a voice as you'll ever hear); Battalion 2 ordered a third on his arrival; and the 4th was struck a few minutes after. A 4 alarm fire in Rochester pretty much empties its fire houses and numerous surrounding volunteer and career departments filled in.
Cool link, thanks. BTW, how many personnel total? We have some high rise's, and haven't had a "worker" yet. We have an ongoing discussion about how many folks it will take to work it. I know the rule of thumb, but just curious.
Totalling up all the equipment I'm guessing about 68 fire fighters and 5 chief officers worked the incident. All but four city companies responded to the fire.
