RI - Bristol firefighter dies while getting ready to respond to a call - LODD

BRISTOL, R.I.—A volunteer firefighter in Bristol died in the line of duty early Monday.

The Bristol fire chief said Wayne Brown called for an ambulance for himself while getting ready to respond to a call.

Brown, 63, was found near his door with his gear on. The cause of his death was not immediately known.

Brown was a longtime volunteer at the Hydraulion fire station, where he served with the fire police.

He was employed as a tax assessor in Central Falls. Central Falls Mayor Charles Moreau offered his condolences to Brown’s family.

Brown was responding to a call for a car fire. A man’s body was found in the car. The case is under investigation.
