After following a link from "The Secret List" I read with concern an OpEd piece by a Mr. Neil Pierce. His position is that the public could be better served (Read reduce budgets and taxes)by sending one firefighter in a car to all alarms to verify if there is REALLY a fire or other emergency. If there is, in fact a REAL emergency, the one firefighter could then summohttp:n a "major response" to handle the call. Yes, the guy is an idiot. But there may be some municipal bean counters who take this type of idea seriously. He also suggests transforming everyone into "Public Safety Officers". Seems some folks tried that before.
