Propane Grill Sparks Iowa Apartment Building Fire
URBANDALE, Iowa - Authorities suspect a propane grill started a fire that damaged a condominium complex in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale over the weekend.
No serious injures were reported in Saturday night's fire at the Plumwood Terrace Condominiums. The fire destroyed the entire third floor and portions of the second and first floor of the three-story, 36-unit building.
Urbandale Fire Marshal Jon Rech said Sunday that investigators determined the blaze was accidental and most likely caused by a propane grill on the balcony of a third-floor unit.
American Red Cross workers helped five families with shelter Saturday night, and 15 families with other necessities.
