TAMPA - A couple using candles for light lost everything in a fire early Friday. Fire started just after midnight in the home located at 3403 East Comanche and was put out in about 15 minutes.
The couple who lived in the home for 34 years, Carolyn and Clinton Simmons were asleep at the time according to Tampa Fire Rescue. They managed to get out of the home without getting hurt.
It is not known why the house did not have electricity but it appears a candle was left burning in the bathroom and it set some items nearby on fire.
The home did not have a smoke alarm.
Fire, smoke and water damage caused at least $30,000 in damage. The couple told investigators they do not have home owners insurance.
The American Red Cross is helping the pair with temporary housing.
