Portland Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Bookstore Blaze

PORTLAND, Ore. - No one was injured in a fire that broke out at the Great Northwest Bookstore in a historic Portland neighborhood.

Firefighters were alerted to the three-alarm blaze at 2:12 p.m. Sunday when the store owner, Phil Wikelund, and a few friends, evacuated the building.

The business is located in a former church in the historic Lair Hill neighborhood in southwest Portland. Heather Donkel, who lives one block from the bookstore, says the old church will be a loss for the neighborhood.
