Sacramento fire officials say a pest control worker has died after a concrete porch collapsed on him.

Fire Department Capt. Jim Doucette says the man was under a house in the Curtis Park neighborhood Monday afternoon when a 1,000-pound concrete slab crushed him.

He says firefighters arrived within one minute of receiving the call but could not extract the worker from under the 6-foot by 6-foot slab until nearly 30 minutes later.

Officials have not released the victim's name.

Doucette says it's not clear why the porch collapsed, but he says the house probably was built in the 1920s.
