Pierce or E-One?

My county is about to finish removing all the front-line E-Ones and replacing them with Pierces. What are your opinions on the two manufacturers? All of the new rigs are Velocities with the One-Eleven mirrors, I personally can't stand the mirrors, but otherwise I feel that its a pretty good rig.

My department has a 2009 Pierce Velocity rescue. DO NOT GET THE ONE-ELEVEN MIRRORS!! Stick with the standard mirrors. We have them on our rig and they are absolutely terrible when you have to back the truck up, especially when backing back into the station. They do look pretty mean on the truck, but as far as functionality goes they suck. The only advantage I see over the standard mirrors is the convex mirror that shows a downward view of the front bumper which I will say came in handy once or twice. There isn't a single person on my department that likes using them. Maybe if you used them on a daily basis you would get used to them over time. As far as Pierce goes, all three of our front line trucks are Pierce with the oldest being a '98. We haven't haven't had any issues with the trucks at all except for the minor bugs here and there when they were first delivered and also the normal wear and tear items. A very reputable brand if you ask me. Just my 2 cents.

We took delivery of a Pierce contender last April and love it! The customer service that Pierce offers has been great. It truly depends on your budget, and what will work for you in your area to fit your needs. One of the major decisions for us was, how stable was the company? Pierce is very stable, and is one of the world leaders in selling fire apparatus. Oshkosh is it's parent company.

We purchased a American La France about seven years ago and that manufacture has had it's problems financially, and made parts hard to come by at times. I think you'll be satisfied with Pierce.
