PHOENIX - An investigation is under way at a central Phoenix furniture store that caught fire early Wednesday.
Fire crews were called out to the Rugs and Decor Store near 5th Street and Camelback Road at about 5 a.m.
Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs tells KTVK-TV that firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the building.
Merchandise was packed in the store which made it difficult for fire crews to contain the flames.
At one point, firefighters poked a hole in the roof to vent the smoke and heat.
Firefighters protected nearby businesses and were able to contain the flames to the furniture store. The fire department says there was minimal damage to a lighting store and salon.
No injuries are reported.
