PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say an elderly man is dead after he jumped from a third-floor window to escape a fire inside his Philadelphia home.


Fire officials say they responded to a call late Wednesday night and found a corner house in the Point Breeze neighborhood engulfed in flames.

Authorities say the man jumped from a rear window before firefighters could reach him. The man landed on a garage roof and was rushed to a hospital but emergency workers were unable to save his life.

The victim's name has not been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
