LAS VEGAS - Firefighters have doused a blaze that destroyed a home near a golf course east of the Las Vegas Strip.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin (KEW-lin) says several pets perished but no injuries are reported after Clark County and Las Vegas firefighters responded to the 9:10 a.m. Monday fire.

Kulin says at least part of the at a two-story home near the Las Vegas Country Club collapsed during the fire.

The blaze sent up a thick plume of smoke around Vegas Valley Drive and Maryland Parkway near Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
