I am just amazed by the difference in drugs ALS rigs carry around my area.  Every service seems to have there very own style they stick to.  I understand every medical director and service has there style but what do you carry and how do you like it?  Just a chance to share some pros and cons about certain pain medications.

My service-
Morphine up to 30 mg IV/IM/IO.  We can also mix it with versed if we get orders. From my short time in the EMS service I have learned that Morphine works pretty good for the most part, however many times after your first dose it drops the pt BP to low to give more.
Second thing,  Like most medications, it does not always work. Some patients seem like it takes almost all the pain away, and others it does nothing for them.

Pros-Seems like very few pt have a know allergy to it. When it works it works great.

Pain meds we use are morphine and Fentanyl
Ours are prescribed by 3 very famous MD's; Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine & Dr. Howard, (A/K/A The 3 Stooges).

It's a rubber mallet!

No seriously, we 've got Morphine & Fentanyl. We're transitioning to Fentanyl more and phasing out Morphine per our SMO's.
We are using Fentanyl now. and we say, her is your leg, don't mind the blood and quit whining!
