Just woundering out there what kind of pagers do you guys use out there? My company currently uses the Minitor II for firefighters but the upper ranking officers use the Minitor IV. Right now i have a Minitor III in the shop and its the only III in the station. So what do you guys use and have any suggestions on any good working pagers?
We have mostly Minitor IIs and some IVs I think. The IIs work pretty well but sometimes get poor reception. The IVs we have like some have mentioned have a squelch problem but also can randomly go off....but not like actual tone instead like the opening tone but it doesn't stop until you turn it off. The IVs generally go off at random inside our radio room regardless of if there is any radio traffic. We also have Motorola Advisor IIs which are the alpha numeric pagers and they seem to be working quite well. We will eventually stop using the Minitors though since our whole area is going to 800 MHz and won't support the voice pagers. Actually we are already using the 800 but they broadcast over both 800 and VHF so that the pagers still work.
MY DEPARTMENT USES THE MINITOR V. WE JUST UPGRADED ALL OUR PAGERS OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS. WE USE TO HAVE II AND III AND IV BUT NOW JUST V. MY OPINION THE V ARE MUCH BETTER.
Yea, Minitor V. they work very well in my area and I'm in WV. Also I have one for sale if you know of anyone looking for a new pager, it has 4 channel, recorder, and select channels.

My dept. uses mostly minitor V few have the older ones II thru IV. I personally have a mintior II (dept. issued), minitor IV (personally owned), and a Minitor V (dept. issued). I carry the V with me most of the time the II stays in the charger at my house. The V is ok not the best one out there by far our guys have had alot of problems with them. I see 2 problems with mine 1 dont go near any electronical devices with it on open cause all it does is all static, as soon as i walk in my house it goes nuts. the other problem is compared to any of the past models the reception sucks. It will only pick up if im in my county so when i am out of my county I carry the IV with me and the IV will pick up fine up to about an hour outside my county with out a problem and where I usually am when im out of county is all hills and stuff so that is not bad at all. so as long as your in your area and not near electronics the V is good. Right now we dispatch on low band just got word this week our county dispatch is looking into switching and disp. on 800 pagers. so we will see

My department has a mix of pagers. Some have III's others have IV's a few have V's and me and a couple of others still have Minitor II's. I recommend any of the newer models, because they are more reliable, and have a longer range. They also are computer programmable so you don't have to rely on getting new reeds or any of the other hardware that the older ones require. Hope this helps!!!!
We just sold our Minitor IV pagers to a neighboring department since were straight 800's. When we had them they were fine for some and others had problem after problem. I think if you take care of them and use protectors then they'll be fine.
I use the minitor II i love it... the rest of the Dept. uses IV but some of the volunteers use II's like me and they work better and there louder so when i run night shifts i can hear mine really well. b safe -654
We just bought a bunch of Minitor V's, but I still carry a Minitor IV. A few of us still carry Minitor II's, and we have a II set up for remote siren start from dispatch. The biggest thing I like about my IV is the fact that it uses standard AAA batteries (I keep a spare pair on my charger at all times).
