Oregon Firefighter Pleads Gulity to Stealing from Association

WARRENTON, Ore. - A volunteer firefighter pleaded guilty stealing more than $22,000 from the Warrenton Firefighters Association.

Christopher Bartlett pleaded guilty Wednesday to first- and second-degree theft and first-degree forgery.

Clatsop County Judge Phil Nelson sentenced Bartlett to 40 days on work crew and a five-year probation period. Bartlett must also repay the money.

As treasurer, Bartlett had access to the Warrenton Firefighters Association's two bank accounts - a business account used for incidentals and the Christmas food-drive account.

Prosecutors say he dipped into both.

The department on the North Coast is rewriting some of the bylaws so there are more eyes going over finances.
