(AP) YAMHILL, Ore.

A four-alarm fire destroyed a barn near Yamhill that contained farm equipment and 400 tons of hay.

The wooden barn at Pfeiffer Farms was less than a year old, and Yamhill Fire Chief Brian Jensen estimates the loss from Tuesday's fire at $750,000.

No one was home at the Pfeiffer residence when the blaze started. As a result, the barn and its contents were fully engulfed by the time help arrived. Fire crews were stretched thin because a manufactured home in Carlton caught fire at the same time.

Jensen says the hay will burn for several days, and the owner is watching to make sure the smoldering blaze doesn't get out of control.
