RENO, Nev. - Authorities in Reno say one person was taken to a hospital for treatment after an early morning fire on New Year's Day.

Fire officials say the blaze near downtown broke out just after midnight in a two-story home that had been converted to apartments.

Firefighters pulled a person out of the fire when they arrived. The victim was taken to Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that firefighters were able to knock the flames down quickly and keep the fire from spreading. The extend of damage was not immediately known.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
