NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — At least one person was killed in a fire and explosion at a Nashville ammunition shop on Monday.

A spokesman for the Nashville Fire Department said firefighters could not tell whether the victim found inside the store was that of a man or a woman.

Rescue workers discovered the body at the Well Done Bullet shop in south Nashville, just after 3:30 p.m. Firefighters could hear discharges going off inside the building that sounded like firecrackers going off, Nashville Fire Department spokesman Joaquin Toon said.

The fire and explosion forced police to block off traffic for two blocks surrounding the shop during rush hour, he said.

The building, which housed several other businesses, was so heavily damaged by the fire that firefighters were told to get out for their own safety.

Toon said firefighters were awaiting word from structural engineers to see if what safe to go back inside.

The cause of the fire and explosion is still under investigation. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will be in charge of the investigation, Toon said.
