Oklahoma City Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Strip Mall Fire

OKLAHOMA CITY - A fire department spokesman says a early morning fire has destroyed much of a two-story strip mall in north Oklahoma City.

Battalion Chief Brian Stanaland says more than 50 firefighters battled the fire that began about 1:20 a.m. He says part of the structure's roof collapsed while firefighters were inside so they were pulled from the building.

He says that water used to fight the fire froze as it ran onto the street, creating slippery conditions for firefighters.

Stanaland tells The Oklahoman that the fire department dealt with eight structure fires between 7 a.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. One of those fires was fatal, as a man died in a fire in a recreational vehicle on Friday in northeast Oklahoma City. His identity hasn't been released.
