NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio - A ladder truck from the North Ridgeville fire department was attempting to make a U-turn on I-80 when it was struck on the driver's side door by a semi truck.
The driver of the fire truck was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.
Shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning, the fire truck was traveling westbound on the turnpike between exits 152 (Route 57) and 145 (Route 10) when firefighters received a call about a vehicle fire in the eastbound lanes.
Authorities on scene report that the fire truck attempted a U-turn from a lane other than the left-most lane. As the fire truck approached the median turnaround, it was struck by a semi truck that was traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the semi truck was not injured. The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
