NORWOOD, Ohio - Firefighters in the Cincinnati area have spent hours trying to tame a towering fire in a vacant industrial building.

Police in the community of Norwood say the fire broke out around 9 p.m. Monday at the former home of the Norwood Sash and Door Co., or Norco. WCPO-TV reports witnesses estimated that flames soared more than 50 feet into the air. At times the thick black smoke from the fire made breathing difficult in the area, and it set off fire alarms at a nearby office building.

Firefighters were still on the scene in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday spraying water from ladder trucks on hot spots that kept flaring up.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials say it may take days to determine what caused the fire.
