officers

i was wondering how other dept.choose or pick their officers.on our dept.our chief picks his officers so plese give me your input.

I suspect loyalty, support and trust might be easier to earn in a mutual admiration society of people whose status depends only on the favor of the one leader who gave them thier jobs. The election of officers (qualified in accordance with By-Laws or job descriptions) by active members is not only a safeguard against hostile take overs by potential tyrants but it gives members at least one annual opportunity to effect what they believe to be a necesary change in leadership. Its is an empowerment they should not be deprived of. Mine is a past chief and 48 year totally volunteer perspective. Keep up the good work.
