FULTON, Ill. -- Authorities say firefighters from at least nine departments were called out to battle a major blaze a few blocks from the Mississippi River in Fulton.

An official of the Fulton Fire Department told The (Moline) Dispatch on Tuesday night that firefighters were expected to be on the scene at least until dawn.

The fire reportedly broke out about 7 p.m. Tuesday in a building that contained a number of apartments. Neighbors said they saw several residents being evacuated, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

At least eight other area fire departments were called out for mutual aid.
